What is 925 sterling silver? How its made, and where that name came from?

Silver jewelry is made of 925 sterling silver and not as you would think of pure silver.Pure silver is too soft to form jewelry and It is therefore necessary to connect it with another metal and create an alloy (a combination of two elements) standing silver from which it will be possible to design silver jewelry.

925 sterling silver is composed of two metals - pure silver at 92.5% and other metals, mostly copper, at the rate of 7.5%.

The silver alloy obtained from the chemical process is more powerful than pure silver so that jewelry can be processed from it and it preserves the beauty of precious metal.

The number 925 refers to the pure silver class in the silver alloy and jewelry. The term "Sterling" is a reincarnation of the word "stiere", which means "strong" in ancient English.

The expression "Sterling Silver" was minted hundreds of years ago and was probably used to mark a strong silver metal from which durable products and coins can be processed.
